Cardboard Shredding
Whilst based at the Chatham Street training centre Pennine Magpie began to convert waste corrugated cardboard by shredding it into a form that could be used as animal bedding. The process used was very labour intensive involving collecting materials and sorting and decontaminating them by hand (removing staples, vinyl tape and labels etc) cutting them into pieces and feeding them into a shredding machine by hand.
The process provided a platform for vocational training but was never economically viable. Cardboard shredding was discontinued in December 2007
